Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance:
CTP Insurance provides financial protection for an at-fault owner or driver of a motor vehicle against their liability for another person’s death or injury. The cover provided is unlimited, but compensation is capped by legislation in some categories.
CTP Insurance (including Premiums) are structured by Queensland Government (meaning that the Policies and Premiums are in essence the same). You can check to see what the current Premiums are at this Queensland Government website (Motor Accident Insurance Commission).
Who is my current CTP Insurer?:
Someone, not necessarily you, chose your CTP Insurer from a list of six (6) licensed CTP Insurers. The reason why you may not have chosen your insurer is due to CTP Insurance being attached to your vehicle’s registration and therefore when you bought your car it was already Insured (registered).Your current insurer is shown on your certificate of registration.
Changing Insurers:
Motor vehicle owners may nominate to change CTP insurer at any time while the vehicle is currently registered, although the actual change of insurer will only come into effect from the commencement date of the next registration renewal.
